The Cape Dory 36 is a quality cruising boat with a proven design and impressive offshore track record. Cape Dory Yachts was founded in Massachusetts in 1963 by sailor and engineer, Andy Vavolotis. Through the years the company forged a great reputation for building sturdy vessels that are safe at sea and easy to handle. The Cape Dory 36 stands out as one of the most popular designs due to its versatility as a great offshore boat as well as being well suited for weekend and coastal cruising. Influences for designer Carl Alberg came predominantly from Scandinavian folkboats which emphasized seakindly and well-mannered sailing characteristics. Prolific and consistent, Alberg was a believer in long keels with attached rudders and easy-to-handle sail plans. The Cape Dory 36 is built strong with a heavy cutter rig configuration for offshore work, yet, nimble and easy to sail for coastal cruising. Introduced in 1978, the 36 was a very successful model which remained in production for 12 years. Construction was always top-notch throughout with excellent interior joinery work and a total of 165 36’s being built.
Wind Walker started life as a Cape Dory 36. It has been completely rebuilt from the keel up and is now a custom yacht ready for world cruising. The hull is original, however, the vessel has been thoroughly upgraded to make for a safe and comfortable world cruiser.
Please Note: hull, mechanical, and rig surveys expected to be uploaded to this page around September 17th.
