Built in 1978 by prominent commercial yard Blount Shipyard, PACIFIC PROVIDER served oil rigs in the Gulf of Mexico and later operated in the Bering Sea as a crab fishing vessel. Most recently, she was renovated in 2016 into an expedition yacht offering adventure charters in the Sea of Cortez and Alaska by Offshore Outpost.
Thanks to her tough commercial steel hull & exterior, ample deck space, and well-appointed accommodations for up to 12 guests, PACIFIC PROVIDER has proven to be an ideal multi-purpose platform that can operate not only as an expedition vessel and adventure yacht, but can easily do duty as a support vessel for a superyacht, a research vessel, or as a family retreat. She is designed to provide guests all the comforts of home and transport them safely offshore, providing new places and experiences with nearly no limitations.
A 91,000 gallon fuel capacity and 12,000 mile range, makes PACIFIC PROVIDER is a true global cruiser capable of easily crossing the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. Additionally, her capacity to make 7,000+ gallons of fresh water a day coupled with large cold and dry food storage, allows her to comfortably remain in remote regions, atolls and islands for extended periods of time. Ideal for those with an adventurous spirit or for those looking for an escape from the current global pandemic crisis.
The work deck of PACIFIC PROVIDER is designed for maximum function in a defined space. It measures 45 feet long by 35 feet wide. The 17-ton telescoping crane booms out to 51 feet. It is a work horse and can securely lift game boats and the ship’s tenders onto and off the deck. The “garage” is located forward of the deck and has a large roller door giving excellent access. The garage holds everything from maintenance equipment, to safety equipment, adventure gear and fishing & tackle supplies. It also serves as a staging point for the ship’s maintenance while leading aft are stairs to the large swim platform.
Retrofit by the Eastern Pacific Yacht Club in 2006, PACIFIC PROVIDER was designed by combining the luxury amenities of a yacht club, the exclusivity of a private yacht, combined with the extensive capabilities of a mothership to a fleet of sportfish yachts traveling the globe in search of the next big catch. The retrofit was overseen by Stan Antrim (widely considered the father of the Shadow Vessel) and completed by Stabbert Marine in Seattle, Washington. It included:
The naval architect ensuring the functional design and high-quality build was Boris Kirilloff and Associates. The same team responsible for the incredible refit and extension of M/Y SuRi. In preparation for her role as an expedition charter yacht, PACIFIC PROVIDER underwent an additional refit in 2016. During this this phase, she received:
Further shipyard work in 2017/2018 saw a complete overhaul of ships running gear in drydock: new bearings, straightened shafts, balanced props, new packing and new rudder packing, hydra-blasted hull to bare steel and applied new anti-fouling paint, renewed steel throughout the vessel based on ABS surveyor inspected audio gauging reports, top-end servicing of CAT Diesel 33-06 generators, and crane load testing to name a few.
In August of 2020, she was hauled for new bottom paint as well as a full mechanical & hull survey which is available for download along with full specifications. Here’s a video of the bottom on August 18, 2020 (prior to the installation of 42 zincs):
