This highly customized 2015 Huckins 50’ sportfisherman is an excellent example of a passionate owner collaborating with a reputable custom yacht builder to design a boat for both family cruising and relaxed offshore sportfishing adventures. As one of the oldest family-owned yacht builders in the nation, Huckins Yachts is known for innovative and flexible designs built atop its patented and efficient Quadraconic hull. Boasting two staterooms, a 35-knot top speed and numerous custom cockpit features, Wombat is designed for serious offshore sportfishing while also providing comfortable and luxurious accommodations for family and friends.
Spectacular cruising, casual fishing, and family fun are at the heart of this 2015 Huckins 45 (50′ 3″ LOA) sportfisherman. Based on the Bill Prince Yacht Design’s signature Huckins retro classic double raised cabin top design, Wombat elegantly and expertly combines the requirements of serious anglers with gracious, classic styling and a hull that is both seaworthy and economical.
Meticulously cared for by her original owners since taking delivery, Wombat is in immaculate condition and offers fresh bottom paint and prop speed on the running gear as well as recently serviced ZF pods with new zincs, filters and transmission fluids.
Bright and airy, the interior features handsome cherry wood with maple sole, low maintenance finishes, Oceanair blinds, nautical-inspired decor, and remarkable 6’6 headroom throughout. Oversize windows – a unique feature on a sportfish of this size – provide ample natural light and a spectacular view of the scenery passing by. A spacious dayhead compliments an L-shaped dinette, which is long enough to serve as a spare overnight bunk, and the adjacent galley with a 32” TV, stove, microwave, and refrigerator with icemaker.
The elegant forward stateroom features a walk-around queen with dual wardrobe lockers as well as private entry to the shared head, while the second cabin is generous with an adult-size bunk for two.
Fully customized by her owner for the whole family to enjoy, the cockpit comprises numerous fishing amenities, including a custom rod-and-tackle station; Rupp outriggers; 20 rod holders; a live well; ample freezer space; and a chipped ice machine that can produce up to 500lbs of ice per day. Ingeniously designed, the freezer and live well can double as aft-facing seating, so no one misses out on the exhilarating thrill of a catch.
The raised helm deck, just a few steps from the cockpit, is the ideal location for family and friends who wish to be a part of the action but from an enclosed, A/C controlled environment. A STIDD helm chair and double STIDD observers seat face forward, while a dual loading freezer aft of the single helm chair and a pull-out cooler aft of the observers seat both serve as additional seating areas. The helm station is fully equipped with Simrad electronics, forward and aft cameras, and other necessary equipment.
Accessible via a ladder from the helm deck, the Marlin tower was custom-built by Palm Beach Towers with a helm station, L-shaped settee, and leaning post under the hardtop.
Powered by twin 480Hp Cummins QSB 6.7 diesel engines, with 340 hours total, and ZF pod drives, Wombat provides powerful and efficient performance, thanks in part to her strong cored fiberglass construction. Maneuvering with the ZF joystick is a breeze for both docking and fishing, and the pods’ dynamic positioning feature allows the boat to stay over a specific area or structure when desired.
The engines are accessible through a centerline hatch in the cockpit, and the engine room provides impressive stand-up headroom as well as access to inspection points around both engines. Wombat burns 28 gph at 24 knots for a 360-mile range – the equivalent of running from Miami to Bimini and back three times.
Additional notable equipment includes a Sea Recovery Safari Mini watermaker with the capacity to convert 170 gallons of water/day; Reverso fuel polishing system; Reverso oil change system; Automatic Fire Boy system; 8kW Phasor diesel generator (406 hours); isolation transformer; Isotemp 11-gallon water heater; and Glendinning cablemaster.
